Julie Fowlis is a Gaelic Singer and multi-instrumentalist from the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. Her successful debut solo album, mar a tha mo chridhe / as my heart is led to her being the first ever Gaelic artist to win a prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Award (Horizon Award for Best Newcomer 2006). She was also voted Gaelic Singer of the Year 2005 at the Scots Trad Music Awards, and was Winner of the International Pan Celtic Sean-Nós (Old Style) singing competition 2004. She has been lucky enough to perform all over the world with amazing musicians and singers, and brings Gaelic music to new audiences wherever she goes. She spends her time recording, researching songs, working with TV and radio, teaching and performing both with her great friends in Dòchas and doing her solo thing with lovely other folk like Eamon Doorley (Danú), John McCusker and Ross Martin (Daimh, Harem Scarem).
