BLAS
We were delighted to be invited to perform at the new BLAS festival which took place all over the Highlands during the first week of September. Our first performance was on Friday 2nd in Staffin Village Hall on the Island on Skye along with Daimh and the Feis an Earraich Ceilidh Trailers. Saturday night saw us performing in Durness Village Hall in Sutherland along with the Feis Chataibh Ceilidh Trailers. We all enjoyed both nights and it was great fun sharing the stage with all the other musicians. It was lovely (plus a bit scary!!!) to hear how well all the youngsters involved in the Ceilidh Trail groups were playing and singing . Loads of talent to look out for in the future! However, the highlight was definately the various guest banjo players at the Staffin gig!!
This was the first Blas festival and we hope it will continue in years to come. It was a great opportunity for bands to perform in smaller venues all over the Highlands. A lot of the time these small villages cannot afford to book bands to perform for them. The funding and other support from the BLAS festival allowed for these concerts to take place and it is surely a good thing.
The band have a bit of a quiet spell now- we’ve had a really busy year so far so I think we are all welcoming the rest! We’ll be doing a few random gigs here and there in the next few months so keep checking the tour page for details of these. Also check Jenna’s web site www.jennareid.co.uk and Julie’s website www.juliefowlis.com for details of their up and coming concerts. Both girls are doing really well with their solo albums and will be busy promoting them over the next wee while.
